GOP Challenges Governor With Rival Health Plan

Law360, New York (January 31, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- State Republicans have countered the California governor’s proposal for universal health coverage with a rival health plan that they call more realistic.

Republicans in the California senate presented a plan Tuesday that would offer “bare bones” health care for up to 3 million of the state’s uninsured residents without hiking up taxes. The latest plan poses a direct challenge to Schwarzenegger’s proposal, which calls for doctors and hospitals to pitch in a portion of their revenues to help cover those without health insurance.
