HP, Xerox, Others Slapped With Internet Fax Patent Suit

Law360, New York (June 25, 2010, 1:48 PM EDT) -- Hewlett-Packard Co., Xerox Corp. and more than a dozen other companies have been accused of violating a Demeter Technology LLC patent covering Internet fax technology.

Allen, Texas-based Demeter lodged its suit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, accusing 20 defendants of selling infringing systems that enable a fax machine to send, receive and manage e-mail.

The asserted patent, U.S. Patent Number 6,157,706, covers a “method and apparatus for enabling a facsimile machine to be an e-mail client” and was issued...
