BP Fined $5.2M For Misreporting Gas Royalties

Law360, New York (June 30, 2010, 3:42 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior has hit BP America Inc. with a $5.2 million civil penalty for misreporting gas royalty rates and energy production on tribal lands in southwestern Colorado, the agency said Wednesday.

BP repeatedly misreported the gas royalty rates it owed to the Southern Ute Tribe and misidentified the specific wells from which it drilled, according to the DOI's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement.
