US Charges Massey Unit With Safety Violations

Law360, New York (July 1, 2010, 6:17 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government has accused Massey Energy Co. subsidiary Aracoma Coal Co. of violating mandatory mine safety standards in connection with a 2006 fire that killed two miners.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia said Thursday that it had filed six criminal informations charging four Aracoma supervisors and two mine truck drivers with various mine safety violations in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
