House Passes SPILL Act For Oil Rig Disaster Victims

Law360, New York (July 1, 2010, 7:09 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday designed to allow the families of maritime disaster victims, including the 11 workers who died in the Deepwater Horizon explosion, to seek more damages from potentially responsible companies.

The bill, known as the Securing Protections for the Injured from Limitations on Liability (SPILL) Act, passed the House by a voice vote despite some skepticism from Republicans and industry groups. It will now move on to the U.S. Senate.
