U.S. To Probe BP Alaska Oil Spill

Law360, New York (February 6, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Adding to recent bad news for oil giant BP Plc, federal criminal investigators will conduct a probe into whether the alleged pipeline safety shortcuts the company took over the last nine years contributed to last year’s Prudhoe Bay, Alaska oil spill.

In March 2006, a BP employee discovered that at least 267,000 gallons had spilled out of pipelines in western Prudhoe Bay, forcing the company to shut down America’s largest national oil field.
