Pa. Fines EOG, Forbes Energy Over Gas Well Blowout

Law360, New York (July 13, 2010, 2:12 PM EDT) -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said Tuesday it had ordered EOG Resources Inc. and a unit of Forbes Energy Services Ltd. to pay a total of $400,000 in fines and take corrective actions to remedy a recent gas well blowout in the Marcellus Shale region of the state.

Untrained personnel and improper well control procedures caused the June 3 natural gas release at the Punxsutawney Hunt Club #36H natural gas well in Clearfield County, Pa., the department said, citing an independent investigation.
