House Panel Backs Oil Well Blowout Prevention Bill

Law360, New York (July 16, 2010, 11:29 AM EDT) -- The House Energy and Commerce Committee has overwhelmingly approved legislation drafted in response to the Deepwater Horizon disaster that would call on companies to implement the safest well control technologies and drilling techniques at high-risk oil and gas wells.

H.R. 5626, the Blowout Prevention Act of 2010, was reported favorably Thursday with the near-unanimous support of Energy and Commerce Committee members, who voted 48-0, with one member voting “present,” to send the amended bill to the House floor.
