BP Spill Suit Stayed Pending JPML Decision

Law360, New York (July 16, 2010, 2:42 PM EDT) -- A judge has stayed a proposed class action that seeks damages against BP America Inc. and others pending the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation’s decision on whether to consolidate the more than 200 lawsuits stemming from the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion.

Judge Patrick Michael Duffy said Wednesday that the suit brought by the real estate company Litchfield Co. LLC should be stayed in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.
