Overstock.com Sues Over Patents

Law360, New York (February 7, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a preemptive strike to a possible patent infringement lawsuit, Overstock.com Inc. is suing Applied Interact LLC for demanding a licensing fee over online sweepstakes and coupon patents.

Overstock alleges that Applied Interact threatened to sue the discount online retailer in a November letter, which claimed infringement of patents on a system to conduct remote sweepstakes and a system to generate product coupons at remote locations such as the Internet.
