First Niagara Hit With ATM Patent Suit

Law360 (July 20, 2010, 2:29 PM EDT) -- First Niagara Financial Group Inc. and First Niagara Bank are facing an enforcement action from a patent-holding company that claims the banks infringed four patents relating to advanced ATMs.

Automated Transactions LLC filed its second amended complaint against First Niagara in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York on Tuesday. The company originally sued First Niagara in May.

The four patents-at-issue relate to an integrated banking and transaction machine for consumer to use to purchase access to "retail ATM services," according to the complaint.
