EU Fines Chemical Cos. €176M For Animal Feed Cartel

Law360, New York (July 20, 2010, 12:07 PM EDT) -- The European Commission fined six chemical manufacturing groups nearly €176 million ($227 million) on Tuesday for fixing the prices of animal feed phosphates for more than three decades, in the agency's first case to combine its settlement procedure and enforcement process.

All but two of the groups implicated in the scheme settled with the European Union antitrust regulator and received 10 percent fine reductions. Three units of Yara International ASA received full immunity under the EC's leniency program, while the French group of Timab Industries SA...
