Law360 (February 13, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal jury on Monday ordered drug maker Abbott Laboratories Inc. to pay $6 million to a former employee who sued the company for alleged age and disability discrimination after she was fired.
Plaintiff Carol Tomao, who suffers from Lupus, was awarded $300,000 in compensatory damages and $2,400 in punitive damages. On top of that, she was given $300,000 in compensatory damages and $3 million in punitive damages for her retaliation claim.
Tomao started working in Abbott's North Chicago facility in January 1998, when she was already over 60 years old, according to the complaint.
