Google Fined By Belgian Court

Law360 (February 13, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Belgian court on Tuesday ruled that Google Inc. breached the copyrights of Belgian newspapers when it included snippets of the papers’ articles in its searches without obtaining their permission.

Brussels’ Court of First Instance ordered Google to continue omitting the articles from its searches and to pay a retroactive fine of €25,000 for each day the articles were accessible through its site, which amounts to about €3.45 million.
