Product Liability Litigation Trends: Health Care

Law360 (February 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Bogged down by thousands of claims over its anti-inflammatory drug Vioxx, Merck & Co. Inc. was involved in more product liability lawsuits last year than any other health care company, our survey of the 50 largest health care companies shows.

As of November 30, 2006, Merck has confirmed that it is facing more than 27,000 lawsuits in state and federal courts over Vioxx, which include about 45,900 plaintiff groups alleging injury as result of using the painkiller.
