NJ County, Gas Co. To Pay $1.3M Over Landfill Gases

Law360, New York (August 10, 2010, 3:07 PM EDT) -- The Middlesex County Utilities Authority in New Jersey and NERC Middlesex Gas Co. LLC have agreed to pay $1.3 million to settle the U.S. government's claims that they violated the Clean Air Act by failing to harness hazardous emissions from a landfill.

In a settlement lodged Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the utility and NERC agreed to install pollution controls and monitor emissions from the East Brunswick Township, N.J., landfill.
