Court Awards Symbol Technologies $26M In WLAN Patent Suit

Law360, New York (July 29, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal court has awarded Symbol Technologies $26 million in the wireless gear maker’s lawsuit against rival Proxim over patents for products based on the 802.11 standard.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware ordered Proxim to pay Symbol approximately $23 million in damages, plus $3 million in interest, for infringing on Symbol's patents.

In mid-September 2003, a jury awarded Symbol 6% royalties on Proxim's past sales of the infringing wireless local area networking (WLAN) products, which date back to 1995 and include Proxim's...
