Deutsche Bahn's Sale Offer Wins EU OK For Arriva Buy

Law360, New York (August 11, 2010, 2:02 PM EDT) -- The European Commission gave Deutsche Bahn AG permission to buy British passenger transit operator Arriva PLC for about $2.4 billion Wednesday after the German transportation provider agreed to sell off all of the U.K. company's operations in Germany to protect rail and bus competition in that country.

The European Union antitrust watchdog said Deutsche Bahn's commitments alleviated its competition concerns about the deal, which will strengthen the German rail service giant's share of the European passenger transit market.
