Monsanto Banned From Planting Modified Beets

Law360, New York (August 16, 2010, 5:11 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has banned Monsanto Co. from planting its genetically modified sugar beets, finding that the U.S. Department of Agriculture deregulated the product illegally.

In a decision Friday, Judge Jeffrey S. White of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California vacated the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service's decision to deregulate the engineered biotech crop and banned its sale until the agency prepares a statement on the product's environmental impact.
