Sills Cummis Eludes Ex-NJ Bank Execs' Malpractice Suit

Law360, New York (August 19, 2010, 1:50 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey appeals court has upheld a lower court's ruling that a small bank's malpractice lawsuit against Sills Cummis & Gross PC, which hammered out a merger agreement between the bank and Sovereign Bancorp in 1996, is time-barred and fails on the merits.

The Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey issued the ruling Wednesday, dealing yet another defeat to former directors of West Jersey Community Bank, which had retained Sills Cummis to guide them through the merger with Sovereign.
