E.U. Cancels Lego Design Trademark

Law360, New York (August 3, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a stinging defeat for Danish toymaker Lego, a European Union office has thrown out its three-dimensional trademark registration for its popular block design.

Lego, whose patent for its construction blocks has long expired, had been trying to use a design trademark to protect its line of toys in the E.U.
