Tonawanda Faces New EPA Order Over CWA Violations

Law360, New York (August 27, 2010, 4:23 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has ordered Tonawanda Coke Corp. to install pollution controls and improve its environmental monitoring, as the regulator continues to push the company to comply with federal environmental laws at its facility near Buffalo, N.Y.

The EPA instructed TCC to meet the terms of its permit under the Clean Water Act, citing a bevy of violations including discharging wastewater with cyanide into the town's sewer system, which eventually dumps the toxic chemical into the Niagara River, the regulator said Thursday.
