La Cafetiere Wins Coffeemaker Suit Against Bodum

Law360, New York (September 3, 2010, 2:28 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has affirmed a lower court's ruling in favor of La Cafetiere Inc. in a trade dress dispute with rival Bodum USA Inc., finding that a 1991 contract permits La Cafetiere to sell Chambord-style French press coffeemakers in the U.S.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit concluded that, under the terms of the 1991 agreement, La Cafetiere can sell the La Cafetiere design anywhere, except France, as long as it does not use the words Chambord or Melior.
