NY's Domestic Workers Bill Of Rights

Law360, New York (September 8, 2010, 5:02 PM EDT) -- On Aug. 31, 2010, after a six-year organizing campaign, New York Gov. David Paterson signed into law the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, making New York the first state in the country to provide extensive workplace protections to domestic workers.

In signing the legislation, Paterson noted, “today we correct an historic injustice by granting those who care for the elderly, raise our children and clean our homes the same essential rights to which all workers should be entitled.” The legislation is set to take effect on...
