Brazil Raids AMR Offices In Air Cargo Probe

Law360, New York (February 23, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Brazilian competition authorities have raided the offices of American Airlines’ parent company as part of an ongoing, worldwide investigation into possible price-fixing in the air cargo industry.

On Friday, AMR Corp. revealed in a filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission that the Brazilian investigators had conducted an unannounced search of the company’s premises last month.

The authorities are currently probing whether the company and other carriers "violated Brazilian competition laws by illegally conspiring to set fuel surcharges on cargo shipments," said AMR.
