FTC Hits Light Bulb Co. With False Marketing Suit

Law360, New York (September 9, 2010, 7:12 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission has sued a California light bulb manufacturer over exaggerated marketing claims about its light-emitting diode bulbs that, according to the manufacturer, date back to a time prior to any standard measuring system for the bulbs' life or strength.

The complaint, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, claims some light-emitting diode bulbs marketed by Lights of America Inc. produce only one-fifth as many lumens as advertised and others last effectively only 1/30th as long as claimed....
