Judge Deals Blow to Canon Flat Screen Business

Law360, New York (February 23, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A judge has decided that Nano-Proprietary can terminate its licensing agreement with Canon Inc. over technology for flat screen televisions.

In the ruling filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, Judge Samuel Sparks said Canon had breached the 1999 license with Nano, formerly SI Diamond Technologies.

Canon entered a nonexclusive license for Nano’s patented technology for surface-conduction electron-emitter displays (SED), which are believed to consume less energy and have brighter pictures than plasma or LCD televisions.
