Astellas Hit With Antitrust Suit Over Stress Test System

Law360, New York (September 14, 2010, 4:08 PM EDT) -- A Florida hospital has filed a putative class action against U.S.-based affiliates of Astellas Pharma Inc., alleging the Japanese pharmaceutical company’s promotion of its patented cardiac stress test procedures has violated antitrust laws.

Attorneys for Florida’s Lakeland Regional Medical Center Inc. filed the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida on Monday, accusing Astellas of abusing its dominance of the stress test market by marking up prices by some 450 percent.
