Ignition Locks Class Action Against Ford Tossed

Law360, New York (September 14, 2010, 4:46 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has dismissed a class action against Ford Motor Co. over allegedly defective ignition locks that made car owners unable to start their vehicles and cost hundreds of dollars to replace.

In granting Ford's motion for summary judgment, Judge Maxine Chesney of the Northern District of California ruled Monday that Ford had no duty to warn plaintiffs the ignition locks might be defective because the plaintiffs were unable to prove that problems starting a car represent a reasonable safety threat.
