North Face, Polo Win $78M In Huge Counterfeiting Case

Law360, New York (September 15, 2010, 6:10 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has granted The North Face Apparel Corp. and PRL USA Holdings Inc. a $78 million default judgment over a sprawling Chinese counterfeit ring that sold knockoff versions of their trademarked goods online.

Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled Monday that because the defendants had allowed an amended complaint to expire without answering, the clothing companies were entitled to the judgment for trademark infringement plus a permanent injunction under 15 U.S.C. Sec. 1114....
