Ex-HomeGold CEO Locked Up

Law360, New York (February 27, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The former chief executive of bankrupt HomeGold Financial, the largest bankruptcy in the history of South Carolina, will be forced to appeal his conviction for securities fraud from prison.

Ronald Sheppard, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison earlier this month, had asked to be released on bond while his attorney, Jim Griffin, appeals his conviction.

But in an order issued Monday following a Friday hearing, Circuit Judge James Johnson denied the request, Griffin said Tuesday.
