EU To Probe Subsidies On Modems From China

Law360, New York (September 16, 2010, 3:14 PM EDT) -- In response to a complaint filed by Belgium-based wireless technology company Option NV, the European Commission has opened a probe to determine whether Beijing is providing unfair subsidies to Chinese modem manufacturers.

The European Commission published a notice announcing the investigation Wednesday in the Official Journal of the European Union. Option, the sole producer of wireless wide-area networking modems in the EU, filed a complaint in August alleging that China has unfairly subsidized its modem makers, the notice said.
