EEOC Targets Security Firm Over Head Scarf Policy

Law360, New York (September 16, 2010, 4:07 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has accused a Philadelphia-area security company of violating federal law when it fired a Muslim security officer for wearing a traditional head covering and threatened to terminate other Muslim workers for doing the same.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, claims Imperial Security Inc. denied religious accommodation to the security officer, Julie Holloway-Russell, and a class of similarly situated Muslim employees by refusing to permit them to wear the head scarf,...
