Bill Aims To Raise Rail Crash Liability Cap To $500M

Law360, New York (September 17, 2010, 2:25 PM EDT) -- Rep. Elton Gallegy, R-Calif., has introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives that would raise the liability cap to $500 million for railroad accidents in which the defendants are found to have been grossly negligent.

H.R. 6150, introduced Thursday, was drafted in response to a deadly 2008 collision between a Metrolink commuter train and a Union Pacific freight train in Chatsworth, Calif., that killed 25 people and injured more than 150, according to Gallegy.
