Dems Push For End To Credit Checks In Hiring

Law360, New York (September 23, 2010, 4:00 PM EDT) -- A group of Democratic lawmakers on Thursday threw their support behind the Equal Employment for All Act, a proposed piece of legislation that would largely bar U.S. employers from using credit checks in hiring and promotion decisions.

Blacks and Latinos are unfairly turned down for jobs when credit scores are used in hiring, several Democrats said at a hearing of the financial institutions subcommittee of the House Committee on Financial Services, a position echoed by panelists from anti-employment discrimination groups.
