Markey Seeks Action On Rare Earth Metals From China

Law360, New York (September 28, 2010, 4:43 PM EDT) -- The chairman of a U.S. House of Representatives energy independence committee has called on top White House officials to look more closely at how Chinese restrictions of valuable rare earth metals could affect the U.S.

Rep. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., the chairman of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, expressed his concerns in a letter dated Monday after China reportedly blocked rare earth elements to Japan in retaliation for Japan's detention of a Chinese fishing boat captain.
