OFAC Bars Imports Of Iranian Carpets, Foods

Law360, New York (September 28, 2010, 4:04 PM EDT) -- Under the terms of the new sanctions on Iran signed into law by President Barack Obama in July, the Office of Foreign Assets Control has halted imports of carpets and foodstuffs from Iran as of Tuesday.

In a Federal Register notice published Monday, OFAC said that the sanctions law strengthened the current embargo on Iran by providing that no exceptions may be made to commercial importation from the Middle Eastern nation of most foodstuffs intended for human consumption and carpets and other textile floor coverings....
