Panasonic, Whirlpool Unit Pay $141M In DOJ Probe

Law360, New York (September 30, 2010, 12:44 PM EDT) -- Panasonic Corp. and Whirlpool SA subsidiary Embraco North America Inc. have struck a deal to plead guilty and pay a total of $140.9 million in criminal fines in a U.S. Department of Justice case alleging a price-fixing conspiracy in the refrigerant compressor industry.

The conspiracy took place from at least as early as Oct. 14, 2004, until about Dec. 31, 2007, according to the DOJ's charges filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Thursday.
