CFTC Unveils New Derivatives Market Proposals

Law360, New York (October 1, 2010, 6:43 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has announced new rule proposals aimed at bringing regulatory controls to the derivatives market, including possible reporting requirements and financial standards.

The agency unveiled the proposed rules, promulgated under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, at a public meeting on Friday, noting that commissioners are under a tight deadline to adopt new standards for the now largely unregulated market worth as much as $615 trillion.
