Microsoft Hits Motorola With IP Suits Over Smartphones

Law360, New York (October 1, 2010, 5:28 PM EDT) -- Microsoft Inc. has filed suit against Motorola Inc. in federal court and the U.S International Trade Commission, claiming that the cell phone manufacturer's Android-based devices infringe nine patents.

Microsoft filed one complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, seeking a ruling that Motorola has willfully infringed the nine patents-in-suit, as well as an award of treble damages and a permanent injunction barring further infringement.
