White House Withheld Info On BP Oil Spill, Panel Says

Law360, New York (October 6, 2010, 5:56 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration repeatedly withheld from the public worst-case estimates of how much oil was spewing from BP PLC's Deepwater Horizon well into the Gulf of Mexico, according to reports released Wednesday by a presidential panel investigating the disaster.

The National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling, which President Barack Obama formed in June to investigate the response, chided the government for underestimating the spill in its early days and refusing to release honest assessments of its scope and severity....
