DOT Blesses Immunity For US-Japan Airline Alliances

Law360, New York (October 7, 2010, 4:40 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation has proposed granting antitrust immunity to a pair of airline alliances among U.S. and Japanese air carriers, arguing the public and the companies stand to benefit.

In a show-cause order lodged Wednesday, the DOT tentatively agreed to grant immunity to Star Alliance members United Air Lines Inc., Continental Airlines Inc. and All Nippon Airways Co. Ltd., and Oneworld Alliance members American Airlines Inc. and Japan Airlines International Co. Ltd.
