EEOC Smacks Walgreens With Race Bias Suit

Law360, New York (March 7, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has hit Walgreen Co. with a lawsuit, accusing the national drugstore chain of discriminating against thousands of African-American employees.

The EEOC took to the courts on Wednesday, filing a racial bias suit against the company in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

“The defendant has engaged in a pattern and practice of race discrimination by assigning and denying promotions to African-American management employees and pharmacists because of their race,” the Commission charged in the suit....
