Class Cert. Denied In Suit Over Safeco Auto Coverage

Law360, New York (October 12, 2010, 5:43 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has refused to certify a class in a suit claiming that auto insurance offered by Safeco Corp. failed to adequately reimburse the plaintiffs for the diminution of car value associated with repairs, which the plaintiff maintained was required by various state laws.

Judge James L. Robart of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington ruled Friday that the proposed class action suit failed to meet the threshold criteria of commonality.
