Convicted AmeriFirst Exec Seeks Acquittal Of Fraud

Law360, New York (October 14, 2010, 5:56 PM EDT) -- A Dallas financier convicted of bilking investors out of more than $50 million is asking a judge for a post-conviction acquittal, claiming government prosecutors failed to prove his alleged lies and omissions constituted a crime.

AmeriFirst Funding Corp. and AmeriFirst Acceptance Corp. Managing Director Jeffrey C. Bruteyn also claimed the jury erroneously convicted him of committing mail fraud when the government admitted the majority of his false statements to investors were made in person, according to a brief in support of his post-judgment motion for acquittal...
