Ukraine Regulator OKs $22B VimpelCom-Kyivstar Deal

Law360, New York (October 19, 2010, 5:24 PM EDT) -- Ending more than a year of scrutiny over the tie-up, Ukraine’s competition regulator has formally approved a $22 billion deal to combine OJSC VimpelCom and Kyivstar GSM into a new telecommunications giant, VimpelCom Ltd.

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine on Tuesday confirmed its earlier tentative approval of the transaction, which involved an asset merger between Norway's Telenor ASA and Russia's Alfa Group Consortium.
