Tesco Drills Oil Companies Over Motor Patent

Law360, New York (March 12, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Shifting its battle from the oil fields to the courthouse, Canadian oil drilling company Tesco Corp. has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Texas against a rival manufacturer and an oil rig operator over portable motors used for drilling.

Calgary, Alberta-based Tesco has accused Fluid Design Solutions Inc. and Aquila Drilling Co. LP of violating its patent for a compact portable top-drive system that can be temporarily installed in existing drilling rigs without structural modifications.
