Avery Dennison Accuses 3M Of Highway-Sign Monopoly

Law360, New York (October 22, 2010, 1:36 PM EDT) -- Avery Dennison Corp. has accused 3M Co. of brandishing its patents and manipulating a standards-setting organization to create an illegal monopoly in the market for reflective highway signage.

3M convinced ASTM International to introduce new highway-signage standards that would steer customers away from Avery Dennison products and toward 3M proprietary products for reflective highway signage, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California by Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP's David Bilsker.
