Farouk Gets $300M Judgment Against Counterfeiters

Law360, New York (October 22, 2010, 3:54 PM EDT) -- In what is thought to be the largest-ever award in an online counterfeiting case, a federal judge has granted Farouk Systems Inc. a $300 million default judgment against Chinese counterfeiters that allegedly sold fake versions of its hair products on scores of websites.

Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt found each of nearly 80 defendants liable for cybersquatting and federal trademark counterfeiting and infringement, and ordered that funds in their PayPal accounts be shunted to Farouk as partial payment of the judgment, according to an order filed Oct....
