EU Forges Watershed Hedge Fund Regulations

Law360, New York (October 26, 2010, 12:46 PM EDT) -- European Union legislators have agreed on proposed regulations for private equity and hedge funds and are poised to enact new laws establishing greater oversight of the sector, including reporting requirements, investor protections and checks against asset stripping.

On Tuesday, the European Parliament announced that it reached an agreement with the Council of the European Union on the Alternative Investment Fund Managers directive, setting the stage for a Nov. 11 vote that will put in place watershed standards for the way hedge funds and private equity funds...
